The wonderful NBK teachers have provided our daughter with a nurturing, kind, supportive and happy pre-school journey. We feel lucky that she had the opportunity to learn, grow, and thrive at NBK.

The State Government provides some funding towards the costs of operation, with voluntary contributions covering the remainder.  We charge an excursion/incursion fee on top of standard fees so money does not need to be collected during session time.

We develop and nurture relationships with each child…

  • We begin by helping children and families to settle happily into the Kindergarten.

  • Relationships are very important to us and we value really getting to know each child and his or her strengths and interests.

  • We model appropriate behaviour and establish routines and limits and boundaries.

  • This helps the children to feel safe and secure and to develop a sense of belonging.

  • Once the children have developed a secure attachment with educators and peers; they have increased confidence to explore and learn and therefore to get the most out of the educational programs provided.

Promoting healthy life practices and a strong sense of wellbeing…

  • Wellbeing incorporates both physical and psychological aspects and includes good physical health, feelings of happiness, satisfaction and successful social functioning.

  • Supporting children to accept challenges, take considered risks and self-regulate their emotions is another part of our daily work with children.

  • We do all of these things because we know that if children have a strong sense of wellbeing, they are more likely to experience success in all of their other developmental areas.

Developing a love of learning…

This will help them not only in the transition to the next level of education, but also nurture an interest in learning that will benefit the children throughout their lives. We aim for children to have a love of learning and to be learners for life.

  • Children’s emerging interests are reflected in our educational programs and promotes learning and growth across all areas of their development

  • Belonging, Being and Becoming are three interwoven concepts encompasses in our program with our philosophy and elements of the Victorian Early Years Learning and Development Framework (VEYLDF) and the Early Years Learning Framework (EYLF)

  • We work with a play-centred approach that emphasises children’s self-involvement and self-responsibility

  • Being kind and respectful towards others is highly valued here. We intentionally plan for the children to build positive relationships with other children, develop social responsibility and to value diversity

  • Learning is planned across all subject areas including; art, music, drama, dance, numeracy, literacy, science, technology, language, social, emotional, wellbeing, health and environmental education

  • Indoor and outdoor environments are inclusive, to engage every child and to invite children to be creative, imaginative and to problem-solve

Parents are requested to help with kinder duty and are encouraged to become involved on the Committee of Management.
